about

SIX REALMS
Different forms of existence we can take upon rebirth, or psychological states we experience in our current life in the human realm.

HIGHER REALMS
GOD blissful, ethereal, supremely contented—oblivious to the suffering of others.
DEMIGOD ego, aggression, jealousy—warring gods (asuras) striving to rise in power & position.
HUMAN passionate, perceptive, experiencing many states of mind—able to free themselves from samsara, the cycle of death & rebirth.

LOWER REALMS
ANIMAL a life of ignorant complacency & dullness—unable to look beyond avoiding pain & seeking comfort.
HUNGRY GHOST pretas have big bellies & tiny mouths—incalculably frustrated by desires they cannot fulfill.
HELL a claustrophobic place of extreme heat or cold—the inescapable torment of one's own intense anger & hatred.
